PRESS RELEASE OF TRANS-BALKAN MEETING IN THESSALONIKI
Following the invitation of the Collective of Struggle for the Revolutionary Unification of Humanity (“Revolutionary Unification”), a tripartite meeting was held in Thessaloniki on September 10-12, 2023 between representatives of the “Revolutionary Unification” from Greece, “Movement of 23 September” (Движение “23 септември”) from Bulgaria and “New Communist Party of Yugoslavia” (Nova komunistička partija Jugoslavije) from Serbia. The necessity for this meeting arose from the rapid escalation of the aggression of the US-NATO-EU imperialist axis in Europe and throughout the world. The three fraternal organisations have proceeded to this meeting aware of the tasks that are put before the communists by the escalation of the war, in which the imperialist axis is striving to involve the peoples of our countries, the peoples of the Balkan Peninsula, which is of strategic importance for the world balance of power.
On the occasion of their meeting, the comrades visited landmarks of our common history, of the Balkan conflicts and the revolutionary movement, which gave rise to historical reflection.
In an extremely comradely and fruitful atmosphere, the representatives of our organisations proceeded to a critical examination of the history and the revolutionary movement of our peoples, highlighting the glorious pages of the common national liberation and class internationalist struggles, but also the miserable role of bourgeois and petty bourgeois nationalisms and chauvinisms, which were and are being openly fomented by the imperialist interventions, in order to provoke and exploit the hatred between the nations, for the manipulation of the class revolutionary movement, for the imposition and promotion of the interests of the financial oligarchy.
They discussed the extremely valuable experience and lessons learned from the victories and defeats of the revolutionary movements in the Balkans and throughout the world, from the rise and fall of projects of socialist building, considering that the defeat of existing socialism in the USSR and in Europe by bourgeois counter-revolutions and capitalist restorations constitutes a tragic setback for the peoples, but in no way means the defeat of the prospect of socialism and communism once and for all, as the ideologists of capital and opportunists claim.
The comrades jointly identified the need to deepen the critical scientific investigation of the bright and dark pages of our history, highlighting the need to deepen the essential aspects linked to the historical legitimacy of the common internationalist struggles for national independence, people’s sovereignty and revolutionary transformations in a socialist direction.
They highlighted key issues of the theory and practice of the anti-imperialist movement concerning the coordination and organisation of the anti-imperialist struggle, the ideological struggle against the undermining action of opportunism and revisionism and the regrouping of the coherent revolutionary and internationalist communist forces, without whose leading role a victorious front of anti-imperialist struggle of the peoples in the Balkans and throughout the world is impossible.
On this basis our organisations have decided:
– To contribute actively and in a coordinated manner to the further development of relations between themselves and between the anti-imperialist forces of our countries on a basis of a front,
– to establish regular contacts and a framework of open Trans-Balkan coordination, communication, events, scientific conferences and militant joint actions, making use of all forms of face-to-face meetings and internet connections,
– in the above-mentioned context, to extend an open invitation to sister organisations and anti-imperialist forces from all the Balkan countries, seeking to expand their relations with them jointly and bilaterally,
– to take the lead with all their forces in coordinating, organising and developing front struggles at national and transnational/trans-Balkan level.
