We extend our warmest revolutionary greetings to our brothers and sisters in Bulgaria, and we respond with militant solidarity to the international call issued by our comrades in the 23 September Movement. Your message echoes the shared pain, anger and determination of peoples in the Balkans and beyond who suffer under the iron heel of imperialism.
The struggle of the Bulgarian people against the forced adoption of the euro and deeper submission to the imperialist European Union is both just and necessary. As Greeks, we are all too familiar with the consequences of eurozone membership: endless austerity, foreign control over our economies, the plundering of public wealth, mass migration and the impoverishment of working-class communities for the benefit of European capital.
The EU is not a project for unity; it is a project for domination. The capitalist oligarchies of Western Europe, with their local collaborators in each country, are using the euro as a weapon to dismantle sovereignty, crush resistance, and deploy the peoples of Europe as pawns in the upcoming full-scale war against Russia. Like Greece before it, Bulgaria is being dragged deeper into this exploitative system.
Despite the wishes of the Bulgarian people, the government is still refusing to hold a referendum. Tens of thousands of people are protesting the adoption of the euro. Police repression, arrests and detentions have occurred. We stand shoulder to shoulder with the hundreds of thousands of Bulgarians who are rising up and protesting daily against repression. No force can silence people who stand up for their rights with dignity and defiance.
Your struggle is not isolated – it forms part of a wider movement against imperialist oppression. The Bulgarian resistance is a spark that could ignite a broader Balkan and European front against the EU, NATO and their local collaborators. We thank the comrades of the 23 September Movement for their initiative. Your call for international solidarity could not be more timely or vital. We respond with commitment, action and our voice.
