SPEECH OF “REVOLUTIONARY UNIFICATION”

In Rome Conference for Peace and against NATO

27-28 October 2023

Few people nowdays question the fact that humanity is either on the verge of, or is already engaged in a Third World War. The escalation of this war includes open fronts involving dozens of states and coalitions in strategic areas of the world. Following the Ukrainian front, with turning points being the Nazi coup in Kiev in 2014, the armed uprising in Donbas and Russia’s special military operation in 2022, we saw tensions rising in the Balkans (Kosovo) and a new escalation in the Caucasus (Nagorno Karabakh). The imperialist aggression of the US-led axis is reigniting the front in Korea and Taiwan. At the same time, we see the reignition of the Palestine front which dramatically brings WWIII to a huge area marked by the Arab-Israeli conflict.

A new anti-imperialist coalition, capable of stopping to a large extent the overexploitation of the majority of the world’s population, is being significantly upgraded through new alliances and integration of new countries. It is enough to look at the rapid expansion of the BRICS at their recent 15th summit in South Africa which is indicative of the quantitative changes that are now becoming qualitative and substantial. It is no longer a question of numerical aggregation of countries, economies and military powers, but a qualitative and substantial leap in the formation of a new pole, or center, with a decisive role to play in the world.

In the context of this situation, some anti-war movements have been formed, which could be put into two categories. On the one hand, we have the movements that perceive the Euro-Atlantic axis led by the USA as the axis of aggression, recognize an urgent need to crush it through the creation of a global anti-imperialist and anti-fascist front which emerges as a basic task from the escalation of the war itself. On the other hand, we have so-called anti-war movements which consider the Third World War to be an inter-imperialist war, promoting an attitude of equal distances towards what they see as two imperialist camps, adopting either covertly or directly the line of NATO and rejecting the formation of an anti-imperialist movement as the most vital task of our times.

The opportunists and revisionists of our times both agree that the task of the movement right now should be to reject anti-imperialism. Foremost among them is that tendency of today’s most dangerous opportunism, led by the current leadership of the KKE, which uses as ideology the revisionist and irrational doctrine of the “imperialist pyramid”. This view, results from the deliberate confusion of the scientific categories ”imperialist stage” and ”imperialist state”. It proclaims that supposedly all states are imperialist, differentiated only by the existence of an unequal, quantitative difference which they occupy based on the one or the other position in the pyramid. As the confrontation escalates, this tendency plays out overtly its divisive and disruptive role in the international workers and communist movement. For this reason, what is required is an open and militant front consisting of all revolutionary anti-imperialist and communist forces, to expose the counter-revolutionary character of the opportunists and the services they provide to imperialism.

We see however, that the Third World War brought to the surface a multitude of ideas, scenarios and approaches to explain the rapid changes taking place in the correlation of power. Some components of the anti-imperialist movement put forward approaches and doctrines coming from geopolitics, such as the concept of ‘multipolarity’. In it, they try to find an outlet for describing the contemporary complex escalating situation, with ideas of a ‘future just world’, which somehow ought to be multipolar, and therefore just and equitable. This is a sentiment of fairness for the ones feeling wronged by the international division of roles in the global hierarchy of countries and regions. This rhetoric takes for granted certain types of transitional international relations, distracts from realizing the nature of the war and its character and distracts from the imperative necessity of militant anti-imperialism. It is a trap for consciences in ideologies of the bourgeois pseudo-science of geopolitics and following behind certain bourgeois classes. Therefore, ‘multipolarity’ does not and could not constitute a positive prospect nor a strategic objective able to stimulate a mass anti-imperialist movement in a revolutionary direction. The anti-imperialist movement demands a rational and scientific basis to analyze the complexity of the situation and ‘multipolarity’ cannot even put things on a rational basis. We need to be able to see the dialectical relation between strategic and tactical objectives and ‘multipolarity’ as an ideological tool cannot help in that direction.

A basic precondition for strengthening the anti-imperialist struggle today is the reconstruction and the reinforcement of the communist movement at national and regional levels and on the basis of the creative development and application of revolutionary theory and methodology for our times. We are not referring to an academic approach in the spirit of abstract theorizing. Our approach focuses on the revolutionary theory and methodology as a weapon for the foundation of the victorious revolutionary movement. It is a fact that without revolutionary theory there can be no revolutionary action. Especially in view of the Third World War, the tasks before us can be answered on the basis of the creative development of the achievements of the revolutionary theory of Marxism-Leninism, combining them with the needs of the present situation. No tactical move, no unifying action, no front can have a perspective without a theoretical diagnosis of the laws of cause and effect in a society, without a forecast of their outcome, without a scientifically documented strategy.

Today, the main conflict in the world, the one that is the most decisive for the development of events on a global scale as well as the correlation of class forces, is the conflict between the imperialist and the oppressed countries. To the extent that the communists both in their theoretical and ideological struggle manage to link scientifically and in a convincing way the anti-imperialist aims with the revolutionary perspective of socialism, with revolutionary social transformations that will pave the way for socialist revolutions, the defeat of the imperialist axis and the establishment of a socialist perspective for the unification of humanity will be possible. For the optimal achievement of these tasks, we participate in the World Anti-Imperialist Platform (WAP) and we consider that it is necessary that forces and tendencies with different ideological-political starting points are united as widely as possible in the frontal anti-imperialist struggle. However, we are convinced that there can be no optimal way of organizing and escalating the anti-imperialist struggle without its organic interconnection with the struggle for socialist revolution.

This role cannot be imposed. It can only exist through the daily escalating revolutionary action and the emergence of the communist forces in the vanguard, through their effective, exemplary and selfless conscious action on the frontal struggle. In this sense, it is undeniable that the present era marks a great turning point in human history and that, as historical experience proves, the victory of the anti-imperialist camp, not only with its political and ideological supremacy, but now also with its military superiority, will be certain.
